U.S. Coast Guard crews, including members of Oregon’s Astoria station, pulled off a dramatic helicopter rescue in western Washington on Wednesday after continued heavy flooding stranded four residents in an attic. Officials called in the aircraft because ground crews were unable to reach the stranded Washingtonians as floodwaters as high as 10 feet surrounded the house, according to the Coast Guard. The U.S. Coast Guard made a heroic rescue Friday after treacherous waves pummeled atop a boat and caused it to capsize off the coast of Oregon. Video released by the crew shows a student rescuer in training swimming towards the 35-foot vessel seconds before a massive wave crashes onto it, sending it tumbling into the water. The rescuer, a student of the Advanced Helicopter Rescue School, was able to reach the stranded mariner in the dangerous waters and were both hoisted to safety, the USCG said
